The White Star Line insured the Titanic and her cargo and the cargo insurance policies covered almost all of the property #claims totalling $9.2 million. And the same as today, insurance companies were able to step in and absorb the losses

This was the biggest maritime insurance loss to date in 1912

According to claims filed, Merry-Joseph Blondel’s ‘La Circassienne au Bain’ was the most expensive object to have gone down with the ship. The amount of the claim was $100,000, equivalent to around $2.6 million today
