⚓This day 15th April 1912 just 5 days after departing Southampton, RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean after hitting an iceberg⚓
At that time she was the largest ship afloat, however nowadays she would be dwarfed by the colossal container ships which grace our oceans
She may have been a passenger ship with luxury quarters for the rich including a gym, swimming pool, opulent restaurants and even libraries but almost 300 companies entrusted this unsinkable ship with their cargo transportation as it was also operating as a cargo ship
The Titanics commercial cargo manifest had a net worth of $420,000. In todays money that would be $12,543,233
Some of that cargo included 16 cases of Calabashes, 12 cases of ostrich feathers, 79 goat skins and 76 cases of ‘Dragon’s Blood’
The White Star Line insured the Titanic and her cargo and the cargo insurance policies covered almost all of the property #claims totalling $9.2 million. And the same as today, insurance companies were able to step in and absorb the losses
This was the biggest maritime insurance loss to date in 1912
According to claims filed, Merry-Joseph Blondel’s ‘La Circassienne au Bain’ was the most expensive object to have gone down with the ship. The amount of the claim was $100,000, equivalent to around $2.6 million today
Many aspects of shipping and insurance from passengers to cargo have changed because of this catastrophic disaster, but the cargo claim industry has become tougher, with more carriers refusing 95% of claims
This is why we want to work for you on a 🔥no win no fee🔥 basis to recoup losses and save you that uphill struggle with the liable carriers!
