Over-flowing ports…
With supply chains affected globally🌏 many questions were asked if there would become a reduction in Cargo Claims.
It is in fact the opposite as humans, computers and robots are working more hours than ever to meet supply needs.
It was the general consensus that production and demand for general household goods from phone chargers to sneakers during the pandemic would be reduced, but as people realised that with one click of a button they need not worry about leaving their house. Demand increased.
Pressure on vessels to be loaded to the max with operations running longer hours to meet consumer needs means more cargo being damaged as they journey from the Far East to US and Europe.
The supply chain has changed dramatically and it may never recover.
Ports are over-flowing with containers stacked higher than ever, and in Los Angeles alone, their usual 5-day turn-a-round to offload a ship is now taking up to 2 weeks🔥
There were talks on ports becoming operational 24/7 to shift the over-flow of containers, but this chain isn’t possible unless every link in this chain is willing to work 24/7. Any broken link could be a single point of catastrophic failure🔥
Extra time for cargo sat in ports🚢 with the ever-growing space needed to hold even more means more cargo is handled when it should have already reached its final destination🔥
All this leads to more time for potential damage and it has been the exporters’ and freight forwarders need to claim for damaged or lost cargo against the liable carriers so their business doesn’t suffer🔥
